MEREDITH, Robert A. Robert A.
Meredith, 82, Sarasota, FL, formerly of Hartford, CT., died March 30, 2010.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Phyllis; daughters, Deborah (Larry)
and Rachel (Marshall) and four grandchildren. Bob was born July 15, 1927 to
the late Aubert and Flossie Meredith. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from
Depauw University, Bob earned his Masters in Mathematics at the
University of Michigan. Watching the Wolverines football team became a
lifelong passion. Before retiring to Sarasota, Bob was Vice President and
Actuary at The Travelers Insurance Company. In addition to having a successful
professional career, he was passionate about games and became a Life Master
with the American Contract Bridge League and a two-time chess champion in the
Connecticut Valley and Western Massachusetts Region. Bob also was a checkers
champion and a life-time member with the American Checker Federation. He was also an avid
photographer earning two Best in Shows in international exhibitions. Some of
Bob's favorite times were square dancing and traveling with his wife and
enjoying his vast collection of classical music and operas. He was a great
storyteller and had an amazing sense of humor. He will be missed and forever
in our hearts. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to All Faiths Food Bank, 8171 Blaikie Court, Sarasota,
or Planned Parenthood.
